@Jimmy Lexie was a great friend of mine. Although we had not spoken in years, I will always remember her. Her kindness and determination inspired me on many different occasions. RIP Lex, you will be greatly missed.
@lrs When I think of the people that make me glad I came to this school, Lexie’s right at the top of the list.
@denburg's email: Dear Barnard Students,
Once again I must write, with great sadness, to share with you news of the tragic death of Lexie (McNaughton) Knox, a Barnard College senior, in a car accident yesterday afternoon, Monday, April 17th, while on a semester leave from the College. Lexie was living with relatives in North Carolina and was due to return to the College in the fall.
We extend our deepest sympathies to Lexie’s mother, Susan Knox, and to the rest of Lexie’s family. Expressions of sympathy can be addressed to Lexie’s mother in care of the Deans’ Office, 105 Milbank.
We have been trying to telephone Lexie’s friends; at the same time, we wanted to share this information with you as soon as possible. Undoubtedly, there are many for whom this email will come as a shock and for that I apologize. Recognizing that email is an impersonal medium, it remains the most practical option for campus-wide communication. We very much appreciate your understanding.
As soon as information about a funeral and/or memorial service is available, we will share that information with you.
This is the second untimely and devastating student death this year and our collective pain is great. Lexie was an engaged and active member of our community and a strong student leader on many important issues. She will be remembered and missed by students, faculty, and staff. Those among us who were closest to Lexie have a particular sorrow to bear. I know that we will be there for one another. Please remember that the staff of the Furman Counseling Center can be a helpful resource.
Sincerely,
