MALCOLM X was racist.. in his last years however, he became an example of a MAN that was able to CHANGE… renouncing many of his earlier tactics (after visiting Mecca) and opinions. So, it is certainly appropriate to have a lounge named after Malcolm. Asoka anyone?

I find it interesting that CCSC won’t take a STANCE on expansion, when ONE COLUMBIA ran last year in staunch support of the 197-a plan and pretty much echoed the strikers’ demands in terms of the 197-C plan.

the early malcolm x was a violent racist who deserved any violence he got

the later one was a groundbreaking leader who should be admired once he stopped following the reverse colonialist tactics of minority racists who just reverse the ‘us vs them’ dynamic as some type of purported liberation (did you read your fanon coupe–otherwise i don’t see any reason for the snideness over a ‘intelligent, succesful’ black man or the violence you advocate in the 4th paragraph)

If you want a lounge, go ask for one. Hey you could even ask the strikers if they’ll add it to their list and you can go sit out and starve with them.

Malcolm X was the voice of the “black” revolution, if you will. The Ghandis and Martin Luther Kings of this world are not very common. Most uprisings of the minority in other countries took place more forcefully, violently, and revolutionary than the African-American peaceful protests of the 60s. Activists at the time tended to be of Malcolm X’s breed, and so he is a hero in the eyes of a formally oppressed race.

The only reason white people don’t like him is because they feared him and what he could do… he could’ve started some real battles if Martin Luther King hadn’t been there. He was (gasp) a smart, organized, and successful (oh no gasp again) black man.

You better be scared when the big strong black underdog finally turns its fangs on you after you’ve been beating the hell out of it all its life… you’d deserve it too. How I wish Martin Luther King Jr. hadn’t been there…

i still dont quite understand how columbia has the malcolm x lounge, and an lgbt lounge, yet there are no “lounges” for hispanic or asian students. if you’re going to grant lounges exclusively to students of one ethnic or sexual group, you need to grant them to all groups. come on.
