Don’t be this guy. Do take classes P/D/F.

Weird elective class getting you down? Want to decrease your stress in something, but still kind-of interested in the class discussions? Just plain not ready to admit you’ve completely given up in a class? If you answered yes to any of these questions, P/D/F might be the option for you.

Taking a class P/D/F (short for Pass/D/Fail) means that whatever final grade you get will be converted to either passing, a D, or failing. If you pass, that class won’t show up in your GPA – so for any English majors who took psych because you thought it’d be interesting and are currently regretting that decision, now is your time. Now is your current time and your only time – because the deadline for choosing to take a class P/D/F is today.

If you’re taking a class for a major requirement or for core, you can’t P/D/F it, but any other classes are good to slack off on, with or without instructor approval. (But some good news for Barnard Babes: you can still get Nine Ways credit for classes that you take P/D/F.)

You can procrastinate on reading, you can procrastinate on problem sets, but you can’t procrastinate on this. Make your choice and make it official, or you’ll regret it for the rest of your life. (Or, at the very least, you’ll regret it for the rest of the semester. Maybe into New Year’s, but that’s debatable.)
