Athena running to her club

Athena’s running the wrong way for the Activities Fair

According to an email sent by Barnard Associate Dean for Student Life Alina Wong to clubs registered with the Governing Board at Barnard, the Activities Fair has been moved from this Wednesday to this Thursday, September 8th. It will be held from 12-4 p.m. in the Event Oval of the Diana Center.

“Please note,” the email says, “due to unexpected and unavoidable circumstances, we have had to move the Activities Fair to Thursday, Sept 8, 12-4 in the Event Oval.” The email was sent around 10:45 p.m. on Monday night, giving student groups 36 hours to change their recruiting plans.

This is scheduled to be Barnard’s first ever independent Activities Fair. The creation of a separate Activities Fair to highlight GBB groups comes a semester after SGA’s town hall on the Barnard/Columbia relationship.

The location and timing of the event have not changed. Dean Wong warns that the Event Oval will be “very noisy” and have “limited space.”

Below is the full text of the email:

Hello everyone!

Thank you for signing up for the Barnard Activities Fair. We have almost 70 groups signed up, so it will be a fun (and noisy) time in the Event Oval.

Please note: due to unexpected and unavoidable circumstances, we have had to move the Activities Fair to Thursday, Sept 8, 12-4 in the Event Oval. I am very sorry for any inconvenience that this causes.

Due to limited space and overwhelming demand, each group must share one 6’ table. Thus, each group will have 3’ of table space and one chair. Please plan your decorations accordingly and share your tables nicely! Since it will be very noisy, we don’t recommend having music at your table.

Check-in will begin at 11:30 in the Event Oval Lobby. We will have maps of your assigned space. You will be grouped with similar student orgz (e.g., Performance groups, Cultural & Identity Based groups, etc.).

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!
