The frustration is real as we are all trying to just get by

These have been tough days for most people with the sad news of an election that has shocked the nation, especially those at liberal colleges like Columbia and Barnard. To combat this, people decided to live life to the fullest because it’s better to take the news buzzed than sober anyway.

Whatever helps the medicine go down:

  • Got a bowl of pasta from Ferris that was literally overflowing; finally felt like my dining plan was going to good use.
  • Spent several hours on Friday putting together a long Tumblr post only for Tumblr to completely fuck up the html when it posted on Saturday.
  • Was so hungover Friday that I slept until 6pm, went to dinner with my boyfriend and his cousin and ended up with free shots because the restaurant messed up. Came back to Mcbain and fell asleep before 11pm.
  • Public safety shutdown a “party” I was at because a kid signed too many people in…there were barely 15 of us there.
  • Potentially hurt an already injured ankle by taking too-many stairs at once.
  • Visited a friend at Yale — I love columbia but I am jealous of the nicely cut fruit salad in Yale’s dining halls.
  • Stalked sorority websites for a good while.
  • Went to a friend’s apartment in Brooklyn, got high, and did watercolors. I usually hate weed but that was the happiest I’d felt all week, and maybe all year.
  • Went to an EC party, got really drunk, and started doing Barre exercises in front of my friend who has never looked more embarrassed to be my friend.

Being productive:

  • Had a deep conversation about Libertarianism.
  • Went to Manna’s in Harlem for buffet style soul food.
  • Found my fave chocolate bar at MoWillies on sale.
  • Asked my mom to come visit me in NY instead of going home for Tgiving and she said yes.
  • Ended up making signs for an anti-trump rally instead of working on Saturday.
  • Got my first tattoo.
  • Made it through a 4 hour bus ride next to a man who wasn’t wearing deodorant.
  • Spent a while tying myself into knots while trying to wear a sari, but eventually succeeded (and looked pretty good).
  • Realized an event I had prepared a year for was only good last year because the seniors then were better than will ever be approached by any other class.
  • The dad I babysit for gave me an impassioned speech on why Roe V. Wade isn’t going anywhere, then paid me double because “It’s been a hard week.”
  • Went bar hopping on UES and was tempted to go home but then I remembered its inhabitants.
