New York City is packed with amazing culture and inspiring art, but sometimes it’s difficult to break the Morningside-bubble and experience it all first-hand. “Where Art Thou” is a weekly guide to interesting and notable lectures, events, and performances for the literary/musically/theatrically-inclined on campus.

Monday, April 10th

  • Owen Sheers: Reading of Pink Mist and Panel Discussion, 6:15 PM, Jerome Greene Annex (Law School) – “Pink Mist tells the story of three young Bristol men deployed to Afghanistan. Returning to the women in their lives who must now share the physical and psychological aftershocks of their service, Arthur, Hads and Taff find their journey home is their greatest battle.” – Free

Tuesday, April 11th

  • Jason Treuting + JACK Quartet, 6:00 PM, Miller Theatre – “A founding member of the pioneering ensemble So Percussion, Jason Treuting is no stranger to exploring new sounds and new works. His performances have been iconic, and his compositions hailed as “rich and engrossing” (Time Out New York). In his New York solo recital debut, featuring Treuting as composer and performer, he explores solo repertoire for percussion, including the premiere of a revised version of Oblique Music for Four plus (blank), for solo percussion and string quartet.” – Free

Wednesday, April 12th

  • Mid-Day Music featuring Joseph Morag on violin, 12:00 PM, Garden Room 2 at Faculty House – Morag will be playing a number of commissioned works that have yet to be announced. – Free and open to the public
  • Columbia Law Revue Presents: Night of the Living Constitution, 8:00 PM, Roone Arledge Auditorium – “Join Columbia Law Revue for another installment of their popular show! This semester, the Revue presents: Night of the Living Constitution! Will the gang be able to defend their fundamental rights?! Will they succumb to the jiggery pokery of the undead originalists?!   • Latenite Spring 2017 Anthology, 11:00 PM, Lerner Black Box – “Latenite Theatre presents it’s Spring 2017 Anthology of short plays. Friday, April 14th

  • Friday Night Sketch, 6:00 PM, 501 Dodge Hall – “Artist Society invites everyone to come and take advantage of the invaluable artistic reference a live model provides at our weekly figure drawing sessions. Artist Society runs studio sessions in an open environment to encourage experimentation, collaboration, and constructive criticism among members. Feel free to borrow from a limited supply of paper, charcoal, pencils, and markers for the duration of each session. The board members and models are constantly trying to develop new poses, scenery, and music playlists, so please speak with any of them about your ideas for future sketch sessions.” – Free admission

  • Soch: Redefining Attitudes, 11:00 AM, Roone Arledge Cinema – “The event is a conference that aims to provide a platform to the activists, artists, intellectuals and entrepreneurs who are offering creative and innovative solutions to some of the challenges that Pakistan and South Asia face today. This year, the conference is focused on ‘Redefining Attitudes’, and participants will discuss the ongoing shifts within the cultural, social and political spheres of Pakistan through the lens of feminism, education, and Pakistan-U.S. relations.” – Tickets $8 with CUID
  • Columbia Ballet Collaborative, 3:00 PM, Miller Theatre – “For the Spring 2017 season, Columbia Ballet Collaborative is excited to announce new works by Barry Kerollis, an award-winning choreographer and renowned instructor based out of New York City and Philadelphia, and Craig Salstein, soloist with American Ballet Theatre, along with alumni pieces by Caitlin Dieck Locke, graduate of Columbia University’s School of General Studies and former Columbia Ballet Collaborative dancer, and Richard Isaac, Columbia University graduate.
