The new paper straws double as bendy straws!

Happening in the world: Claiming to hope to increase the country’s population, Tanzanian president John Magufuli has begun to urge women to stop using contraceptives. His comments have been met with much criticism, especially since Tanzania has some of the highest birth rates in the world. (BBC)

Happening in the US: The Trump administration plans to withdraw from a federal court agreement on the detention of migrant children. It has also created new regulations that, if in effect, will allow the government to detain minors in unlicensed facilities. (Reuters)

Happening in NYC: Although Gov. Andrew Cuomo still holds a strong lead against Cynthia Nixon for the New York gubernatorial election, the race for attorney general is much closer, with Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney leading the way and Letitia James and Zephyr Teachout trailing closely behind. (NYT)

Happening on campus: The Glicker-Milstein Theater Workshop will take place today from 6 to 10 pm in the GMT. Anyone who is interested in performing at the GMT is encouraged to come and meet with the Head Coordinators of the GMT, learn more about the space, and ask questions about upcoming productions. Check out the Back@Barnard Facebook event for more.

Overseen: A limpy environmentally conscious Cafe East paper straw. See above.
