Blow that horn

Written by

shofarOn College Walk, right now, indulge your inner biblical hero and make a shofar for Rosh Hashanah! The good people at Columbia Chabad have a wealth of ram’s horns (and sheep and kudu and creatures more exotic) that you can drill and sand for free. If you like your creation, you can take it home for $7.00. Bwog was assured that none of the animals were killed just for their horns.

“It gets a big hug right before we slaughter it,” added one shofar-smith, putting Bwog’s mind at ease.

More photos after the jump.

  1. ah...

nothin like some horny jews to rouse my spirits after a long day.

  2. now im intersted

all jokes aside, i saw this hapen on campus today and was totally taken aback... at first i didnt know what to think but then as i came closer and saw what it was all about, i learned so much about shofars, rosh hashana and judaism that i have never really had the opportunity/interest to explore. This was a great opportunity for me and i am greatful it was here.

  3. hmm

you don't collect this many horns by going to the forest and picking them off all the dead ram corpses you find laying around.

and yet, when some WASPy gentleman goes on hunt, there's no end to the animal rights protest...nor is there even when people kill rats for human health related experiments...

  5. or maybe

killing animals isn't all that bad. if the goat is used for meat to then what is the issue. i don't think anyone is trying to suggest these animals were just killed for their horns. don't horns also fall off every year? oh that's right we really don't have classes in animal biology at columbia. would be beneath us.

  6. yeah

Goat horns fall off. And those deer and goat heads mounted on the walls behind them just fell out and stuffed and mounted themselves.
There's no "right" or "humane" way to kill anything. If I say a prayer over a human, look deep into their eyes, and lovingly slit their throat, my ass is still gonna be thrown in jail. Kill animals if you want, but don't wrap yourself up in religion and being right, at least have the balls to own up to being the murderer you are.

  7. ERm

Religion or no religion, I like hamburgers. Halal meat, jewish tradition, s'all good. Damn I just made myself hungry.
