Guide to the Weekend: Rainy Days and Beautiful People

Written by

Friday, Saturday, Sunday
fashion week

NY Craft Beer Week

9/11 through 9/20, various locations

If you’re getting tired of Pabst, take your pick from over 80 bars and sample some of the finest micro and homebrews the city has to offer.

Price: passport costs $35, but with it you can try each beer for just a few dollars

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

9/10 through 9/17, Bryant Park (Sixth Ave between 40th and W. 42nd Sts)

We know: those of you lucky enough to get on a guest list are already going.  For the rest of you, head to Bryant Park to oogle the beautiful people and get a glimpse of a world you didn’t think actually exists.

 Price: Free

Friday

Naughty By Nature Live

Friday 11 pm – 4 am, Le Poisson Rouge (158 Bleecker St)

New Jersey’s supergroup does The Freedom Party, New York’s longest running, weekly Friday night dance party.  Party like it’s Jersey City without actually having to leave Manhattan.

Price: $20

 Saturday

Twestival

Saturday 6-10 pm at The Brooklyn Bowl (61 Wythe Ave)

Twitter branches out of the internet and plants itself firmly in physical, if surreal, reality with a celebrity bowling party whose proceeds go to CampInterative, which sponsors inner city youth in outdoor education and…technology?  Strange bedfellows are followed by the official (and free!) afterparty, High Rollers.

Price: $20 – $60

Roof Garden Cafe and Martini Bar at the Met

through November 29 5:30-8, at the Met

It features a full bar, soaring views of the city, and Roxy Paine’s twisting, monumental installation.  The roof closes once it gets cold, so if the weather turns nice, enjoy it while you can.

Price: Free with museum admission

Sunday

Broadway on Broadway

Sunday starting at 11:30 am at Times Square Alliance (1560 Seventh Ave)

New York says a hyperbolic goodbye to summer as top performers from this years’ biggest acts gather in Times Square for an all-star show.  Also includes previews of new acts.  Hosted by Michael McKean, star of the upcoming and dubiously named Superior Donuts.

 Price: Free

Brooklyn Book Festival

Sunday 10:30 – 6 at Brooklyn Borough Hall and Plaza (209 Joralemon St between Court and Adams Sts)

Norman Mailer, Paul Auster, and Paul Muldoon will be there.  It’s in the heart of Brooklyn.  New York is full of book festivals, but be sure to start the year with this one.

Price: Free
