@Anonymous FYI: ADP’s alums (who financed the purchase of the house) don’t like the pirate flag, hence it’s not up. This isn’t the first time that their the alums have made them take it down. It was missing half of last year.

@if you are indeed a pretentious brit, and not just an imposter, which i assume to be the case, you wouldn’t have made such a comment. cambridge and oxford is full of buildings that are in need of a good powerwash too. to do so would be a travesty, both there and here in the colonies.

@Forgive me for suggesting the obvious But aren’t there a couple of movies shooting on campus right now? My guess would be that the flag got switched by a details-oriented director.

@Most directors use Columbia for the scenery not the name. Case in point Gossip Girl.
And we really dodged a bullet there. God forbid Gossip Girl strikes up a deal with Barnard. The last thing we need is our reputation being tarnished by that bullcrap.

@yeah... it is pretty weird that the first greek organization at columbia, which originally financed the building of the house and has recently gained complete ownership of the property/has invested copious amounts of money in its renovation, and whose members throw pretty well-publicized events on a regular basis, should get its own space.

adp actually bought there house outright recently from the university. there was a long-term lease since the 1980s.
the flags at adp usually rotate on a whim. jolly roger, adp, american, or whatever else we feel like. there was the flag of sweden up for over a year a while back. not sure why there is a columbia flag now, but whatever.

@well the mortgage was probably taken against the present market value of the property, which is clearly millions more than what was paid for it. they somehow managed to secure a clause in their lease agreement way back when that stipulated the house could be purchased back from columbia at any time for the 1980’s value of the house, when morningside heights was cracktown.

@why ADP gets a house is beyond me. I’ve yet to hear of a single event or publication sponsored by them. I’m sure there are plenty of other groups more deserving of that space.

no offense to ADP, but every literary event i’ve been to there has been horrendous-terrible poetry, terrible readings. every time i’ve been there to get fucked up has been awesome, though. they just need to get off their high horse and admit they are the St. A’s of frats.
