A tipster reports that a Columbia student was arrested at Westside around midnight tonight. According to a cashier, the suspect had shoplifted before, but was finally caught tonight, and led away in tears.

Update (1:50): Ricky, the manager at Westside, confirms that a female student was arrested. He noticed her put about $60 worth of groceries into a bag and walk out of the store. When he stopped her, she claimed she had bought them that afternoon. He brought her back inside and called NYPD, and she was taken into custody. Apparently people, including students, attempt to shoplift fairly frequently (perhaps they haven’t noticed the 30 video screens above the cash registers—look up next time you check out!) but that there had not been a Columbia-related incident recently.
