Starcraft Steals The Show

Written by

An artist's rendering of Sunday's battle against Tufts.

Despite a rocky start to the season, the Columbia Starcraft team has made something of a comeback, finishing the regular collegiate season with a win against Tufts this past Sunday.

The club has several dozen members overall, but sends only a team of the five frontrunners to compete in the Collegiate StarLeague—a league name which we will henceforth use as much as possible, because it’s awesome. Of the StarLeague’s 240 teams, Columbia finished 28th overall, 10th in the Eastern region, and 2nd in its region (after NYU).

For those who are unclear as to what the terrain of  the StarLeague actually looks like, club member Chris Mulligan puts it in layman’s terms: “In the competitive arena, players take control of one of three races—Zerg, Protoss or Terran—and try to quickly build a base, build an army, and then use that army to destroy the other player.” It sounds suspiciously like trying to gain control of a four-top in 209 during finals season.

The team is now headed to the StarLeague playoffs (!) in mid-March, where they’ll go head-to-head with the other top 30 teams. If you’re interested in getting in on the action, the team meets Fridays from 4 ’til 10 pm in 401 Hamilton, and anyone is welcome to attend.
