Your access to this is at stake

The ESC meets every week. Notorious newsperson Aria Sharma writes about it for us every week.

Tonight’s ESC meeting was fast-paced with updates rolling nonstop.

The Dean Search Town Hall was on Monday at 4pm. Twenty-five students showed up, out of which 23 were undergraduate students. ESC welcomed a new web master, Robert Ying (SEAS ’16). In the financial world, JCC is meeting and funding student groups. Another financial initiative includes having TVs set to news channels across campus because it’s important to be informed! These would make an appearance in locations such as Carleton Lounge, outside the Mudd elevators, and in Butler. Continuing with the Space Initiative from last week, a walkthrough the spaces was completed. Pictures can be found on the ESC Facebook page.  Contact the student councils if you or your student group is interested in using these spaces!

Help save the Arts Initiative! Will Hughes, CCSC VP Policy, presented to ESC tonight about the Arts Initiative. The Arts Initiative, founded by PrezBo and Gregory Mosher in 2004, was supposed to touch the lives of every CU student. Big programs of the Arts Initiative include Passport to Columbia (that’s what gets us into 34 museums for free; side note: Columbia does not pay at all for these programs), the TIC (our very own box office that sells about 140,000 tickets every 18 months), and ArtsLink (the program that allows professors to send students to operas and shows). Unfortunately, things have been changing since the Fall of 2009 when the program moved from the President’s Office to the School of the Arts. In just two years, the program had a 40% operating budget cut. To sum it up, the Arts Initiative is slowly dying. The Frick Collection, the Whitney, and the Guggenheim have already left Passport to New York. What needs to happen? Spread the word! We need increased student institutionalized feedback and funding!
