Lights grow on trees now?

Engineers have governments too! They’re just like you, except they’re engineers. Here to open your eyes as to this week’s meeting is Bwog’s report, by constant correspondent Aria Sharma:

Dean Goldfarb, Interim Dean of SEAS, was present at this week’s meeting to discuss the state of the school, which can pretty much be described as good. The engineering school saw an increase in number of applicants for Early Decision.  Questions arose about the amount of space available, particularly for mechanical engineering classes and other clubs that need to share shop space. Students also posed questions about Columbia remaining competitive for graduate engineering with Cornell’s new campus for Masters studies in New York City. Dean Goldfarb was firm that the University need not feel threatened by Cornell’s presence as Columbia will remain a highly sought after school. Basically, Columbia (engineering) > Cornell (engineering), which we all knew already. And finally, for your free food needs, there will be Hot Chocolate with the Dean on 11/27 from 5-6pm in Lerner 401.

General updates from the meeting include that the new website is up and running, but don’t flock there just yet because it still needs to updated and edited. Still, it looks mighty fine. The councils are meeting with Dean Becker, of the School of the Arts, on Tuesday to discuss the Arts Initiative. Finally, attendance records for your ESC representatives will begin to be publicized. Although they are already public, through attending the meetings in person or requesting attendance records, the council will be making it clear how well your elected representatives are representing you.

Fun things are just around the corner! Glass House Rocks is kicking off its planning season. Tree-Lighting, also known as the most wonderful time of the year, is November 29th from 6-7pm. Finally, Tis the SEASon will be the following week to get students in the groovy holiday mood. I have it on good authority that there will be costumes involved, so get pumped.

Brought to you by the Class of 2013, there will be a December Lerner Pub, with a wintery theme that is also a throwback to freshman year. The Class of 2014 will be holding their Formal on January 26th. The Class of 2015 is looking to collaborate with CCSC, SGA, and ESC 2016 in the future. A tri-council shirt has been designed and will be released next semester. Finally, Class of 2016 posted a poll of Facebook to choose the winner of their DJ Competition. The winner will receive movie tickets and the opportunity to DJ Winter Formal.
