In case you haven’t checked your email since the last day of finals, a new registration window for spring classes opens tomorrow. From January 8th through January 11th and from January 14th through January 18th, you’ll be able to search for a better Music Hum time slot and reconsider that Renaissance art seminar you were so enthusiastic about in November. Unlike the regular registration period, appointments are not determined by seniority, so you’ll have equal opportunity to beat out everyone else *cue Hunger Games reference*. Registration starts tomorrow morning, so the only difficulty will be rousing yourself out of your winter break stupor (sorry, West Coasters).

So you don’t have to open your inbox and avoid that final paper grade waiting for you, the full email from Barry Kane below the jump:

To All of Our Undergraduate Students in Columbia College, the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, and the School of General Studies:

I hope that your holidays were good ones and that you are enjoying the well-deserved break from the rigors of the regular academic routine.

With the start of the spring semester just around the corner, I write to you now with important information regarding your spring course schedule and the opportunity that you will have to add and drop courses and to refine your course selections prior to the beginning of classes the week of January 21st.

Starting tomorrow, Tuesday, January 8th, we will open the second of our additional registration windows. This window will extend through Friday, January 11th, and will then continue on Monday, January 14th, through Friday, January 18th. During this time, I encourage you to drop courses you registered for earlier that you now know you no longer want to take and to add courses that you feel should be included on your spring schedule. Working through these course adjustments now will not only make things easier for you during the opening days of the spring semester, but also will help us administratively to refine our enrollment projections and to assign, to the extent possible and practicable, all courses to appropriate instructional space.

Note that this upcoming registration period will be open to all continuing students and that there will be no registration priority based on class standing. You will therefore have the chance of securing admission to a course or courses that may not have been possible during the initial registration period when access to registration was based on class standing.

As with earlier registration periods, you are encouraged to consult with your primary academic adviser if you have any questions about your program of study in general or the upcoming registration window in particular.

We look forward to having you back in class with us and filling the campus with your energy, enthusiasm, and intellectual engagement.

Yours truly,

Barry

Ugh, why must you remind people who would otherwise not be on top of their shit to register so they can steal the spots I've been eyeing for weeks. I'm a senior, I deserve good core sections for once, dammit!

anyone with a tu/th art hum want to trade for my mo/we 2:40 section? classes have changed and now I have literally all five classes Monday/Wednesday and am afraid of dying.

so seriously, if anyone wants to swap out of their tu/th 8:40am for something at a more humane time of day (or, you know, anything tu/th for any reason), drop me an email :)

meant to include: contact me at [email protected] (I can reply from a Columbia address if you like but don't want to give it out here).

thanks! (there has to be a better way to do all this...)

(and music hum is okay too, if you still want to swap!)

Or leave me a comment here with your contact info and I'll reach out to you - apparently the part where I put my email in hasn't been approved by the mods. :)
