water we supposed to do now??

Food, water, atmosphere.

Due to an emergency water shut down on 114th street, some residence halls will lose water access, and JJ’s Place and Butler Cafe will close early tonight, September 17th. The shutdown is scheduled for at 10 pm and will last for 3 hours, though the email Housing sent out incorrectly says it will start at 1 am. Residence halls affected include: Carman, John Jay, Ruggles, Broadway, Hogan, and Brownstones. All dining units will resume regular hours tomorrow, September 18th.

Here’s the official email from Housing:

Dear Residents

Columbia University Facilities has just been notified by NYC Department of Environmental Protection that there will be an emergency water shutdown on W114th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue from 1:00am until 4:00am.

The impact on residence halls is as follows:
Residents of Broadway, Hogan, and Brownstones should expect to lose water during this period.
Residents of Carman, John Jay, and Ruggles should be prepared to lose water during this period.
If you need to use the facilities between these hours please proceed to a residence hall away from W114th street between Broadway and Amsterdam.

We would also like to inform you that, due to the emergency water shutdown, JJ’s Place and Butler Café will be closing at midnight tonight.

We apologize for the inconvenience this causes and we appreciate your patience while it is resolved.

Sincerely,
Columbia Housing
