Is this what they do?

It’s a big week for engineers, and here they fill you in on the deets behind the scenes! ESC Bureau Chief Keenan Albee brings you this week’s updates.

ESC released their first End of Semester Report Wednesday evening, chock full of lovely headshots, statistics, and breakdowns of what council members accomplished last fall. The report, which ESC hopes will spur similar summaries in future semesters,  also details formatting updates for ESC communications and a general financial breakdown. Peruse to your heart’s content, and be sure to direct feedback to the following survey provided by ESC.

Back at their regular Monday council meeting, ESC was up to some of their usual shenanigans. First up on the agenda was follow-up to the recently launched Our Blue spirit campaign, which was met with mixed reactions. To show commitment to the campaign, ESC is currently working on having mascots and Columbia decorations installed in student centers and is also ordering laptop stickers and other student giveaways for distribution.

With Engineering Week and Glass House Rocks looming, ESC had a slew of smaller events and possible initiatives to mull over. A mini Engineering Career Fair, led by student organizations and supported by ESC, will be held on Friday from 2 to 5 in the Lerner Party Space, despite a smaller than expected turnout. Spring elections were also on the table, with a timeline set to begin March 23rd. Get out your campaigning shoes (those are a thing, right?). Other goings-on included plans to create better documentation of council committees for posterity and, as per usual, ongoing honor code and grading policy change talks.

A few points of debate also came up during the meeting: keys and guns. Water guns, to be precise. CU Assassins, to be held during Engineering Week, will not feature water guns as the weapon of choice, but will now have…squeezable sharks? Foam blasters? The decision is still being made, but Bwog is a fan of sharks in general. Fines for lost and locked-in room keys—currently being considered by the administration—were a hot topic with suggested alternatives including a lower fine, or a lost key quota before fines begin.

And all the rest:

  • A “Culpa-thon,” to be held in Lerner, is being planned.
  • The Chess Club won the Ivy Championships after receiving a travel grant from JCCC.
  • The Class of 2014 is holding a Lerner Pub this Thursday.
  • The freshman class is co-sponsoring a Valentine’s Day crafts event today in the West Ramp Lounge from 2:30 to 4:30.

ESC meets every Monday at 9:30 P.M. in the Lerner Satow Room.
