Protesters outside of the KDR brownstone

Earlier today, a group of students demonstrated in front of the Kappa Delta Rho fraternity house on 114th Street in response to our release of screenshots from a wrestling team GroupMe. Kappa Delta Rho, also known as KDR, is widely considered the “athlete” frat, and numerous wrestlers are members.

Three of the protesters held a sign stretched in front of the brownstone’s steps that read, “White Supremacy Lives Here,” while some others held signs referring to Donald Trump. At one point, the protesters began to shout, “Show your face!” at someone in Carman waving a Trump sign out their window.

Though some members of the Wrestling team are members of KDR, the fraternity is made up of athletes from other sports as well as non-athletes, and many of KDR’s members are men of color.

Update, 11/12/2016 at 2:45pm: Earlier today, the protesters’ “White Supremacy Lives Here” banner could be seen hanging from the roof of the KDR house. It has since been removed.

Bwog was also able to get in contact with some members of KDR since the protest in front of the house yesterday. One of the men, who wished to remain anonymous, described tension among the members. “We are clumped in with the [members of the Wrestling GroupMe], which is problematic considering how many people of color are in the fraternity,” he said. “I’m angry, and so is everyone I talked to,” he continued, and expressed a desire to possibly disaffiliate from the fraternity if those involved with the GroupMe continued to be members.
