Cory or Andy in the house?

Meet Andy Truelove! He was featured in Bwog his freshman year, and now he’s back. Check out what he has to say.

Name, School, Major, Hometown: Andy Truelove, CC, Political Science, Grand Prairie, TX.

Claim to fame: Well I had an election scandal covered in Bwog my freshman year then that got me into Orgo Night. The next year I became President of the Columbia University College Republicans.

Where are you going? Texas!! Attending Baylor Law School in the fall!

What are 3 things you learned at Columbia and would like to share with the Class of 2021?
1) As cliché as it sounds don’t just stick to one club or friend group. The best friends I have at this school are people I literally just saw in a hallway or lounge and just started to talk to them. It’s those random interactions, which have made the last four years so exciting.

2)  Also I learned that the best discussions I’ve had aren’t at any club or formal setting. They are with the people that you meet on your floor and people you become friends with. On that note I’ve learned that you should engage with everyone especially those that you have disagreements with. Believe it or not you can develop a deep and abiding friendship with someone that you fundamentally disagree with.
3) I’ve also learned that people at Columbia really do tend to hide how much they are struggling. So I’ve found it best to acknowledge I don’t know what’s going on in people’s lives. Which is why I try to engage everyone with light heartedness and to be purposeful in my interaction with others.
Extra tip: I didn’t think I could afford to do unpaid internships but Columbia offers generous resources to those on financial aid. Take advantage of this!!!!

“Back in my day…” Orgo Night was held in Butler and I won’t donate to Columbia until its back in 209.

Justify your existence in 30 words or fewer. Politics, Texas, theatre, snickers and most importantly Truelove.

What was your favorite class at Columbia? Constitutional Law was my favorite and I highly recommend the class to anyone! You cover most of the major Supreme Court cases and the instructor Sidney Rosdeitcher is great! (Special perk you get to meet Ruth Bader Ginsburg at the Supreme Court)

Would you rather give up oral sex or cheese? No comment

One thing to do before graduating: Whether or not you’re a sports person or an art person. Go to at least one sports game in the city and see one Broadway musical! You never know, you might develop a lifelong love of baseball or Wicked. I’m fortunate enough to have both now!

Any regrets? I never did see Hamilton.
