Happening in the World: Benoit Quennedey, a senior official in the French Parliament, was arrested for potentially spying on France for North Korea. Quennedey has authored multiple books on North Korea and was formerly head of the Franco-Korean Friendship Association. It is doubtful that he had access to crucial sensitive material, though. Happening in the US: Democrats nominated Nancy Pelosi for the House Speakership yesterday. 32 Democrats voted no, though, which poses challenges for Pelosi for the official floor vote on the position in January. (New York Times)

Happening in NYC: NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a new plan to combat the opioid epidemic in the South Bronx, which has the highest overdose death rate in the city. The plan includes more aggressive outreach measures involving hospitals, churches, and peer advocates, and is partly inspired by successful measures combatting the crisis in Staten Island.
