She’s the Pillsbury Doughboy, and she’s here to get that bread.

Shannon Galiotto is next up on our Senior Wisdom series, here to talk pizza rolls, dance some salsa, and show off her Halloween #lewk.

Name, School, Major, Hometown: Shannon Galiotto, Barnard College, Mathematics and Computer Science, Los Altos, CA

Claim to fame: Was the person who requested Mamma Mia at every senior night. Also might have helped you make a graph for your intro chem lab at the ERC.

Where are you going? To sleep! And then to SE Asia & Australia (I know, I’m basic) before heading to Seattle to join corporate America.

What are 3 things you learned at Columbia and would like to share with the Class of 2022?

a) Be kind to yourself and ask for an extension if you need one. Professors are people too, and I’ve been given one every time I’ve asked.

b) Take advantage of everything this school has to offer! In just the past couple months, I’ve taken a salsa class, learned about the neurology behind music, and obtained several free t-shirts/bags/hats (#itsnotfreeits70000dollars) because I know these opportunities won’t be easy to find in the real world.

c) It’s very cliche, but the people you surround yourself with and time you get to spend with them matter 100x more than any class or assignment. Looking back, I will remember the time my roommate and I rearranged our room at 3 am while eating microwaved pizza rolls more than any exam I ever studied for.

d) Bonus for my Barnard babes: if you live in Columbia housing, you get access to Barnard AND Columbia dorms. 10/10 would recommend feeling this powerful.

“Back in my day…” I ended my weekend nights at Cannons, studied in the bean bags in Lehman overlooking Maggie, knew stuff in 9 different ways, and had to beg my friends to swipe me into JJs before it closed at 1 am.

Justify your existence in 30 words or fewer: I was the Pillsbury Doughboy for Halloween [see photo].

What was your favorite class at Columbia? US History: 1940-1975 with Mark Carnes. In another life I’d be an APUSH teacher.

Would you rather give up oral sex or cheese? Cheese is the main reason I haven’t gone vegan.

One thing to do before graduating: Dye your hair pink.

Any regrets? How much time I spent waiting to get signed into Carman freshman year.
