Mina Mahmood has access to the ever elusive Senior Scramble spreadsheet and is here to tell you to say no!

Name, School, Major, Hometown: Mina Mahmood, Columbia College, Political Science, Brooklyn, NY

Where are you going? My dream has always been to work in New York City politics and my long term goal is to run for office. Before that? I am going with the ~~flow~~.

What are 3 things you learned at Columbia and would like to share with the Class of 2023?

1. Your support network is important. Sometimes people don’t know you need help until you tell them. So, tell them!! (Also, call home.)

2. You need to make time for personal development. I am not my freshman year self and that development didn’t happen during class time or during my extracurriculars. It happened during the unplanned, unscheduled moments where I allowed myself to enjoy just being with myself.

3. You should learn to say no to things! FOMO can feel like the worst thing ever…until you’re out at 3 am, tired af, and wishing that you were having some much-needed downtime. Go out…when you want to go out. Do things…when you want to do things. Take on more responsibility… if you want to take on more responsibility. You’ll be happier for it.

Favorite Columbia controversy? The decision to put the Plan B and condom vending machine in the middle of the John Jay lobby.

Justify your existence in 30 words or fewer: My mother always tells me that I was born for greatness. If you disagree, you can take that up with her.

What was your favorite class at Columbia? Digital Series with Ben Philippe. I came to college a hopeful Film major and four years later, I decided to take a film seminar. I am now writing, producing, casting, filming, and editing my own web-series… AND IT IS THE MOST FUN I HAVE EVER HAD!!!! EFHJIDKFJIDDONIVDVHIEOFDSNK

Would you rather give up oral sex or cheese? Cheese has got to go 👋🏾

Whom would you like to thank? My mama for her wisdom. My friends for having my back. My professors for the extensions. 😇

One thing to do before graduating: Take a class Pass/Fail.

Any regrets? Over the last four years, I was too damn hard on myself.
