Fête Friday’s arrival with fish guts, familiar faces, and feral turkeys.

Happening in the World: Lucy Hughes, a 24-year-old from the UK, has gone viral for designing a biodegradable packaging material made from fish guts and algae. She won this year’s £30,000 James Dyson Award for the design, which could reduce future plastic use and cut down on waste from the fishing industry. (BBC)

Happening in the US: Ten candidates have qualified for the Democratic debate on November 20th. This time around, two familiar faces will be missing from the stage: Beto O’Rourke, who dropped out of the race, and Julián Castro, who did not qualify. The debate will air on MSNBC from 9 to 11 pm ET. (NPR)

Happening in NYC: 40 to 60 wild turkeys have descended upon Toms River, New Jersey to torment the town’s residents by biting, clawing, and shitting on everything in their path. The posse is said to be formidable: they weigh between 16 and 24 pounds on average, they can fly, and their knobby, spindly legs carry them at speeds up to 20 mph—making them efficient and enthusiastic machines of war. And there’s no end in sight: the town’s animal control lacks jurisdiction to trap and relocate wildlife. (Gothamist)

Happening on Campus: Stop by Shapiro’s main lounge from 12 to 1 pm today for Quench: Spirituality in the LGBTQ Community. Hosted by Trans Awareness Week and QFaith, the event will include an informal lunch and a discussion about the challenges of building diverse, LGBTQ-centered spiritual communities.

Twitter recommendation: @femscriptintros, which was introduced to me by my UWriting professor two years ago.
