Happening in the World: Halyna Hutchins, director of photography for the new movie Rust, has succumbed to her injuries after being fatally shot on set due to a prop gun discharge. The woman was shot by the movie’s lead protagonist and co-producer Alec Baldwin on the movie’s Mexico set. Director Joel Souza was also reported to have been injured by the misfire, however, his current condition has yet to be confirmed (CNN).
Happening in the US: The remains of Gabby Petito’s fiancée, Brian Laundrie, have been found in the T Mabry Carlton Jr Memorial Reserve located in Florida’s Sarasota County. Dental records confirmed that the skull and bones found, along with a couple of Laundrie’s belongings, belonged to the 23-year-old. The confirmation of Laundrie’s death adds another layer of intricacy to the Gaby Petito case and has left law enforcement with inconclusive answers (BBC).
Happening in NYC: New York’s Cannabis Control Board has issued regulations to allow medical marijuana users and caregivers to grow their own marijuana plants at home. The regulation is to be put in effect in 60 days and will allow eligible New Yorkers to grow up to six plants in their residence (Gothamist).
