Happening in the World: A man in Australia has allegedly stolen a platypus from a waterway in Morayfield in Queensland. The 26 year old man and the woman he was accompanied by are now facing charges after boarding a train with the animal wrapped in a towel and showing it to other passengers. The man has been identified and arrested, however police have not been able to locate the platypus. (NYT)
Happening in the US: Chipotle has taken Sweetgreen to court over the salad franchise’s new “Chipotle Chicken Burrito Bowl.” Chipotle states in its complaint, filed Tuesday, that the new menu item constitutes trademark infringement, trademark dilution, and deceptive trade practice. Although Sweetgreen claims the use of “chipotle” refers only to the spices used, Chipotle said in their lawsuit that Sweetgreen is profiting off of their well known trademark. (NPR)
Happening in NYC: Parts of Rockaway Beach will be closed this summer for restoration and construction work which is now extending into its fourth year. The closures will begin Memorial Day weekend, closing 10 to 15 block sections at a time from Beach 116 Street to Beach 143 Street. The construction is part of a $336 million Army Corp project to protect the coastline from erosion and flooding. (Gothamist)
Happening in our Community: An installation by Student Artist in Residence, Grace Li (BC 24’), titled everything left unsaid, will be displayed in the Barnard Movement Lab from 2:30 to 7:00 pm today through Friday. The installation will focus on Li’s experience growing up as a first-generation Chinese American daughter to immigrant parents in Nashua, New Hampshire, exploring themes of growing up, the unreliability of memory, and family history. Drop ins are welcome to the Movement Lab in Milstein Center LL020 during the specified times.
