Happening in the World: A crew of four astronauts landed at the International Space Station, one being Turkey’s first astronaut to ever arrive there. In their two-week stay, they will conduct scientific experiments about the impact of spaceflight on human health and disease while orbiting through space. This mission is being paid for entirely by Texas-based startup company Axiom Space. (Reuters)
Happening in the US: A recent salmonella outbreak is seeming to be linked to charcuterie being sold at Costco and Sam’s Club. As a part of an ongoing investigation, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that there were at least 47 known illnesses and 10 hospitalizations in 22 states that are linked to these contaminated products. The CDC urges customers to not eat the products and is further investigating whether other products have also been contaminated. (NPR)
Happening in NYC: At John F. Kennedy International Airport, a traveler was arrested for attempting to smuggle cocaine hidden within bags of jumbo shrimp. They were arrested after Customs and Border protection officers found clothing and bags of frozen jumbo shrimp within their luggage. Investigators reported that within the bags of jumbo shrimp were brick-shaped objects filled with a white, powdery substance that was later found to be cocaine. (ABC)
