The money came from her late husband David Gottesman, who worked under Warren Buffett and invested in Berkshire Hathaway early on. Gottesman said she hoped her donation would allow students to graduate debt-free and broaden the socioeconomic diversity of the student body. (New York Times)
Happening in NYC: The landlord of more than 10,000 apartments at the Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village complex dropped attempts to overturn rent stabilization. Blackstone bought the property in 2015 and planned to raise the rent on more than half of its apartments. Tenants sued in 2020 to keep their rent stabilized, citing new state laws that protected them, and a judge ruled in their favor. Blackstone appealed the decision, but dropped the appeal, marking a victory for renters in the city. (Gothamist)
