Enjoy a recap of Friday’s tennis matches against the University of Kentucky
On this cold and rainy Friday afternoon, all of us Columbia fans were ready to watch the women’s tennis team (3-1, 0-0 Ivy) bring the fiery heat against visiting University of Kentucky from Lexington (4-2, 0-0 SEC). The light blue Lions were taking on the Wildcats inside the Milstein Family Tennis Center uptown from campus, and it was sure to be a good one.
Fans watched the ladies on court one take an early victory and kept the lead for a final set of 6-1. On court two, while the Lions lost the set 1-6, their fight was unmatched and effort was more than visible. On court three, the lady Lions kept pace above the Wildcats and also took the set 6-1.
As we moved onto singles, it was clear that the ladies were continuing to bring the fire with constant “Come Ons” and “Let’s Go Lions!” Cheering each other on, Julia Haynes (CC ‘23), Gayathri Krishnan (CC ‘27), and Natacha Schou (CC ‘23) took early leads to start the matches while Anna Zhang (CC ‘23) on court two worked to battle out the tie at hand.
After the early opening sets, Columbia continued to fight it out in another round of hard-fought matches. Overall, by the end of the match, the Lions proved victorious with the overall win and took points at four of the singles courts against the Lions securing their dominance for yet another week.
For now, they are the head of the pride. Looking forward, come Sunday the Lions will take on the Syracuse (4-0, 0-0 ACC) and Wagner (1-2, 0-0 NEC) Women’s Teams uptown again at the Milstein courts (11 am and 3 pm, respectively). Game, set, match—let’s go Lions!
