Happening in the World: In May, Prince Harry will return to the United Kingdom to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games, a biennial sporting competition he founded. The last time he was in the United Kingdom was in February when the cancer diagnosis of King Charles was announced. Happening in the US: After years of debate, grizzly bears are set to be reintroduced in Washington State’s North Cascades mountain range. It may be years before the bears can step foot in the area as the process of reintroducing them requires trapping, trucking, and transporting by helicopter bears from British Columbia or Montana. The National Park Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced that their hope is for a founder population of 25 bears to be built in the next five to ten years. This move is in the hopes of restoring the once keystone species, which has not been spotted with certainty since 1996. (NBC)
Happening in NYC: A cold case murder out of midtown Manhattan is now closer to being solved due to the victim, classified as a Jane Doe, being identified. On February 10, 2003, construction workers found the skeleton of a 16-year-old wrapped in a carpet and encased in cement. After 21 years, her identity has been identified as Patricia Kathleen McGlone, who is believed to have been murdered in 1969. This discovery was made possible through a genealogy tree and her DNA matching a relative who died on 9/11. (NBC)
