Rogers Brubaker – The Internet, Hyperconnectivity, and Their Discontents

- The internet and its capacity for connection has transformed how people obtain and communicate knowledge, with profound implications for governance. It has totally altered how people perceive and interact with the public world. The talk will analyze how hyperconnectivity can simultaneously promote techocracy and populism. More information.
SEAS Colloquium in Climate Science with Anastasia Romanou, NASA GISS

- Dr. Anastasia Romanou is a Research Physical Scientist at NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies, as well as adjunct faculty in the Department of Applied Physics and Applied Math. At this colloquium, she will highlight various experiments used by NASA to predict remaining carbon budgets based of different temperature thresholds, as well as how the system will respond to various emissions levels. She will explore some implications of this research, such as our understanding of desired temperature stabilization and tipping points.
From Shocks to Resilience: Lessons from UNICEF for Today and Tomorrow

- The National Center for Disaster Preparedness at Columbia University is hosting an event reflecting on COVID-19, with the intent on understanding how those insights can be applied from shocks to today. It will explore topics using South Asia as a case study, to analyze future public health crises, climate emergencies, and more.
