As I sit in my dorm unable to breathe out of my nose I wonder what I have done to deserve this form of cruel punishment. It comforts me to know I am not alone in my sickness.
Happening in the World: The Philippines has officially declared a polio outbreak. Despite global efforts to eliminate this crippling disease it has begun to come back with a vengeance in the Philippines, Pakistan, Afghanistan and several other African and Asian countries. This outbreak may be due to a recent air of distrust surrounding vaccines in the area. (The New York Times)
Happening in the US: There are currently over 500 cases of people sick with illnesses that can be linked to vaping in the United States. The FDA is concerned that these cases will become more and more common with more patients coming in with “irreversible damage.” Yikes, folks. Think about this post the next time you rip someone’s Juul at an EC party and your lungs will thank you. (Deccan Chronicle)
Happening in NYC: Schools in New York are beginning to turn students away who haven’t had all vaccinations required. This change follows the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene reporting 654 cases of measles in the past year. I’ve never had measles before but I can’t imagine it would be much fun. My goal this year is not to get measles; a goal I initially thought would be easy to achieve, but now I’m not so sure. (The Hill)
Happening on Campus: If you are sick (of this country) like I am then boy do I have an event for you. Tomorrow there will be a study abroad info session from 1 to 2 pm at Barnard 302. Hopefully this will raise your spirits as you try to plan your impromptu year in Indonesia!
A Dog I Saw On Campus This Week: Sunday, September 21, 2019 at 8:37 pm I met Mochi, a shiba int who was joyously frolicking with his mom and dad in the grass by the sundial. Our interaction was the highlight of my night and also my life. If you want to keep up with Mochi and his adventures you can follow his Instagram @shibemochi !!
