Happening in the World: Workers in France are striking against pension reforms proposed by French President Emmanuel Macron. On Thursday, more than 800,000 people across the country took to the streets in protest. The strike—the largest one nationwide in years—is expected to continue today. (BBC)

Happening in the US: Speaker Nancy Pelosi has announced that the House will begin drafting impeachment articles against the president. A vote might take place before Christmas. (NYT)

Happening in NYC: The New York City Council is considering a ban on paper receipts coated with BPA. The proposal comes after a new study suggested that the substance—an endocrine disruptor and carcinogen—may be especially dangerous to pregnant women, even in low doses. In addition to the ban, which would mandate that businesses offer electronic receipts, the City Council is also considering making paper receipts recyclable and providing alternatives to BPA receipt paper. Something worth reading: Jamie Lauren Keiles’s new write-up of Adam Sandler for the NYT Mag. Like always, they take a sharp and discerning approach to what might otherwise be dismissed as low-minded pop culture. They’ve written some other great features on Bhad Bhabie, ASMR, and national parks.
