New York City is packed with amazing culture and inspiring art, and now that so much of it is online for free, there’s never been a better time to experience it first-hand. “Where Art Thou” is a weekly guide to interesting and notable lectures, events, and performances for the literary/musically/theatrically-inclined.

Performances:

  • CoLab Performing Arts Collaborative will be hosting their Spring 2022 Showcase in the Barnard Movement Lab on April 15 at 7 pm and April 16 at 2 pm and 7 pm.
  • On April 16 at 8 pm Columbia Repertory Ballet will be presenting a gala-style performance both virtually and in-person at the Manhattan Movement and Arts Center with variations and excerpts from La Bayadere, Coppelia, Paired Reflections, and more.

Readings:

  • The Such Sweet Thunder Festival will continue on April 12 at 6 pm in the Buell Hall East Gallery with an open discussion between notable scholars on Toni Morrison’s Othello re-imagining, Desdemona, as she focuses on the title character’s relationship with the Black woman who raised her.
  • On April 13 at 7:15 pm, part II of the Sixth Annual Alumni Poetry Reading Series will be continuing in Dodge Hall 501 with authors Marie Howe CU Arts ’83 and Vijay Seshadri CU Arts ’88.
  • The University Life office will be hosting a virtual poetry slam on April 14 at 6:30 pm entitled “Roses Growing in Concrete–Our City by Black New Yorkers.” The performance is open to all Black New Yorkers who wish “to share their experiences of Black love in NYC and Harlem through poetry, music, lyric, or speech.”
