Happening in The World: James Corden has officially left his role as the host of “The Late Late Show” after hosting the talk show in the US for over eight years. His final episode aired on April 28, 2022, and included special guests such as Harry Styles, Chris Martin, and Will Ferrell. Corden expressed his gratitude to his producers, CBS, and his late-night rivals, and reflected on his time on the show and described leaving as “the right thing to do for so many personal and professional reasons.” Following his departure, CBS plans to replace “The Late Late Show” with the game show “@midnight.” Notably, Corden faced controversy when he was temporarily banned from a New York restaurant in 2020 for being “extremely nasty” to staff. Happening in The US: Former US Vice-President Mike Pence testified before a federal grand jury in Washington DC for over seven hours as part of a criminal investigation into alleged efforts by Donald Trump to overturn his defeat in the 2020 election. Pence is considered a key witness and his eventual testimony is a major milestone in the two-year investigation. (BBC)
Happening in NYC: The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has announced the suspension of its use of Twitter for subway and commuter rail service alerts due to recent interruptions and concerns over the reliability of the platform. The agency’s access to Twitter was involuntarily interrupted twice in the last two weeks, and Twitter’s recent actions to prioritize and verify accounts that sign up for its monthly paid subscription of Twitter Blue have raised concerns. The MTA will continue to utilize its in-house resources for customers seeking service alerts, including phone apps, web pages, email alerts, and text messages. Customers will still be able to tweet at, and with the MTA’s Twitter accounts, including @nyct_subway, with any questions or concerns. The MTA’s main account will also remain active for branding and other messaging. (Gothamist)
