Happening in the US: Today, the Missouri House of Representatives is set to vote on redrawing congressional lines, creating an additional voting district in the state. This district would reportedly lean Republican, splitting a Kansas-City district held by Democratic Representative Emmanuel Cleaver and diluting their votes. Drawing new congressional maps is a part of President Donald Trump’s plan to help his party before midterm elections. (NYT)
Happening in NYC: Mayor Eric Adams’s executive order to reopen an office on Rikers Island for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been blocked by Supreme Court Justice Mary Rosado. Rosado declared the order “null and void” and a conflict of interest to have ICE on Rikers Island. The city council agreed with the decision, stating that it is a victory that will make the city safer for all. (Gothamist)
