‘Tis the Season Columbia!
Happening off-Campus: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced a recall of over 260,000 cases of shredded cheese distributed across 31 states and Puerto Rico due to the potential presence of metal fragments. The affected products, produced by Great Lakes Cheese Co., were sold under various private-label brands at major retailers including Target, Walmart and Aldi. The recall covers multiple varieties of shredded cheese, including mozzarella, Italian-style blends, pizza-style, mozzarella–provolone and mozzarella–parmesan mixes. Classified as a Class II recall, the action indicates that the products could cause temporary or medically reversible health issues. According to the FDA, consuming metal fragments could lead to dental damage, mouth or throat lacerations, or even intestinal injury. (AP)
