Bwog’s best sports fan, Max Rettig, brings you the latest in Columbia athletics.
The men’s basketball team lost a hard-fought battle against Elon University on Sunday. The Lions faced an early 15-0 deficit before rallying back to force overtime.
The team trailed Elon for mostly the entire game, but junior Alex Rosenberg hit a game-tying 3-pointer with less than a second remaining to send the game into overtime. Rosenberg’s shot gave him 19 points for the game. Columbia evened it up and kept it close in the second half of regulation, allowing Rosenberg’s game-tying basket to be relevant. In the extra period, Columbia and Elon hit baskets in turn before defense took over. Trailing by 4 with 15 seconds remaining, Maodo Lo knocked down a 3-pointer to make it a one-point game, but foul shots by Elon and a desperate heave by Columbia that was far off the basket sealed Columbia’s fate. Overall, it was a valiant effort by Columbia, especially given that Columbia was behind early and often.
Rosenberg finished with 19 points and Cory Osetkowski posted 10 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists for the Lions, now 4-4 on the season. Columbia returns to action tomorrow night (Wednesday, 12/4) at 7:00 pm against Army. Come out and support the team!
Other Columbia Scores!
- Wrestling competed in the Northeast Duals, defeating Michigan State by a close margin but losing to Lehigh and Clarion.
- Women’s basketball fell to Portland State 67-75. Freshman Tori Oliver scored a career-best 18 points. The team is 1-6 on the season.
- While Bwog still does not cover football, punter Paul Delaney (Sr.) was given first-team All-Ivy League honors, probably because he punted so much due to the ineptitude of the Lions’ offense.
