Happening in the World: Joaquín Guzmán Loera, more commonly known as El Chapo, was convicted on Tuesday for his infamous drug cartel, fraught with corruption and violence. El Chapo was charged with 10 guilty verdicts on all 10 counts of the indictment and now faces life in prison. The three-month trial in New York was “so bizarre it felt like a drug-world telenovela unfolding live in the courtroom” (NY Times).
Happening in the US: Trump’s tweets are under fire once again, this time for featuring the iconic work of Iranian photojournalist Yalda Moayeri without giving credit to the artist. Trump tweeted the photo, which features an unidentified protestor in Tehran during the riots of 2017, in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution. The Iranian Photojournalists Association awarded the photograph first place in its annual contest. (NY Times)
Happening in NYC: Officers on Long Island rescued a dog left out in the cold on Tuesday morning, carrying her to the car, giving her warm water, and bringing her to McDonald’s for some hamburgers. Warren is now up for adoption at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter. Make sure to bring your pets inside during the frigid winter months!
