Isabella has some wise words on how to enjoy college life, including how to get an extension on your late assignment.

Name, School, Major, Hometown: Isabella Lajara, Columbia College, Latin American and Caribbean Studies and Political Science, Bronx NY

Claim to fame: hugged Michelle Obama

Where are you going? Hopefully to a Zoom-less world. I am so so tired of Zoom

What are 3 things you learned at Columbia and would like to share with the Class of 2024?:

1) Make time for fun, there’s no use in spending your four years stuck at Butler if you’re not going to make time to just enjoy college.

2) Talk to your professors as people because a lot of them are really cool and really nice and will let you turn in assignments later when you ask them how their day has been

3) Be kind to people. Pretty simple but goes a long way. Say hello to the dining staff, smile at the maintenance staff, ask the person who swipes you into the dorms how their day has been. Say please and thank you. Seriously. Do not be a jerk to people who work hard to make sure you can focus on school and your social life.

“Back in my day…”: Back in my day Bacchanal used to be on campus. And happen.

Favorite Columbia controversy?: Anything with the marching band. Truly a messy group

What was your favorite class at Columbia?: Latin Music and Identity with Ed Morales. Or any class with Frances Negrón-Muntaner.

Whom would you like to thank?: Everyone who has ever bought me a drink at Mels/1020/The Heights/Amity, I love you

One thing to do before graduating: Watch some fireworks in the EC courtyard

Any regrets?: Not going to enough senior nights because I thought I would have more time. Coronavirus shut that plan down so make the most of your time while you have it.
