I’m not exactly sure what you were expecting.

Happening in the World: Algae producing “cyanobacterial neurotoxins” have been blamed for over 300 elephant deaths in Botswana, officials announced on Monday. The number has increased from 281 since July. (NBC News)

Happening in the US: Senator Lindsey Graham has announced his intention to confirm the late Justice Ginsburg’s replacement before the November election. He refused to confirm Obama nominee Merrick Garland in 2016 due to 2016 being an election year. (The Hill)

Happening in NYC: New York City, along with Portland and Seattle, have been declared “anarchist jurisdictions” by the DOJ because they “permitted violence and the destruction of property to persist and have refused to undertake reasonable measures to counteract these criminal activities.” This current Portland resident either slept through the anarchist revolution or said revolution hasn’t happened yet here, and my contacts in NYC and Seattle say the same for their respective cities. (NBC News)

Happening in the community: At 12:00pm EST there will be another Climate Week event discussing recovery from COVID-19 and how the environment will factor into such recovery measures. Here is the event URL.

One good thing because you deserve it: This shrimp lives in the Iranian Dasht-e-Lut desert, and I think that’s nice. It’s called a fairy shrimp and it hatches from sometimes decades-old eggs when rainwater forms a puddle in the sand. “Dasht-e-Lut” translates to “desert of emptiness” in Farsi but it’s NOT empty! Life finds a way even in one of the world’s harshest places! The little shrimp don’t live very long but they live long enough to lay more eggs in their “ephemeral lakes” before they dry up and even though they might not get to do much the fact that they live at all might just be beautiful enough and oh god did I just cry a little over shrimp????
