Happening in the World: Socialist Luis Arces has won the Bolivian election against Centrist candidate Carlos Mesa. Luis was picked by Bolivia’s first indigenous president, Evo Morales, to continue his legacy after his resignation from the role. After learning about the results, Morales said, “We recovered our Democracy.” Morales is currently exiled in Argentina after pressure from a right-wing coup a year ago (NPR).
Happening in the US: Wildfires have raged over Colorado and Utah adding to the 8.3 million acres that have burned throughout the country this year. Boulder County was hit specifically hard this past weekend, with 9,000 acres burned making it the worst wildfire in Boulder County history. The wildfire in CalWood has burned at least 26 homes with many others being partially damaged (CNN).
Happening in New York: The New Yorker has suspended legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin after he was seen masturbating on a Zoom call. Jeffrey believed his video was off and did not realize his mistake before many co-workers had already seen his member. The New Yorker is currently investigating the matter and assures that they take this violation very seriously (VICE).
