Happening in the World: In Brisbane, Australia, Anton Nguyen was awoken by his pet parrot, Eric, yelling. Anton got out of bed to the smell of smoke and realized the back of his house was in flames. He called firefighters and when they arrived, his entire house had erupted in flames. Nguyen lived alone and was awoken by his bird before any smoke detectors went off (BBC). 

 Happening in the US: The 2020 Election Week started on Tuesday, as people all over the nation look to see who the next President of the United States will be. Although it is still too early to predict because many mail-in ballots haven’t been fully counted, Joe Biden is currently in the leads in electoral votes. In addition, Sarah McBride won a seat in the Delaware State Senate, making her the first transgender state senator in U.S. History (Vox).

Happening in New York City: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) has been reelected to her House seat representing New York’s 14th congressional district, located in the eastern Bronx and north-central Queens area. AOC beat out Republican John Cummings easily in a 68.7% to 30.6% race, with the remaining votes going to third-party candidate Michelle Caruso-Cabrera (AP).
