Following a spring break hiatus, ESC returned with an untraditional general body meeting.

A typical ESC meeting features discussion topics followed by position updates from various council members that detail what they have been working on lately. This week, though, the council went straight to position updates.

Student Body President Estevan Mesa’s (‘22) updates covered an International Students Committee meeting, senior discontent with the university’s 2021 graduation format, and topics for an upcoming meeting with Dean Morrison.

The International Students Committee is newly formed, and Mesa attended its inaugural meeting. He reported back that the committee plans to offer several workshops for international students on topics including taxes and forms. Mesa also noted that CCSC Student Body President Joon Baek (CC ‘21) suggested a mentorship program where international alumni would be paired with current international students to provide support and advice for studying and working in the United States.

This week, Mesa’s meetings include one with members of the SEAS senior class and the ESC eboard to discuss discontent with the current graduation ceremony plans for the class of 2021 as well as a meeting with Dean Morrison. Mesa hopes to share the outcome of the meeting with the senior class, which is scheduled for Tuesday, March 9th, with Dean Morrison on Wednesday, March 10th.

Mesa also plans to continue conversations about this year’s credit limit, summer housing, and student survey results at his meeting with Dean Morrison.

Next, Vice President of Student Life Katherine Liu (‘21) reminded the council of the Get FU’d event. Got FU’d is a chance for students and faculty to mingle. Though this year’s event will occur virtually, Liu hopes to send giveaways to all participants. The event will be held this Friday, March 12th, at 6 PM.

VP Communications Adheli Gonzalez (‘21) asked all council members to complete transition documents explaining various ESC positions and initiatives in preparation for council elections.

The meeting concluded with updates from the class councils on upcoming events and ongoing initiatives.
