Don’t bring your dog to Cunningham Park. Instead, go to Paris!

Happening in the World: Mount Everest’s highest glacier, South Col, is rapidly melting. It’s melting at a pace that ice formation cannot match: nearly 80 times as fast! South Col’s packed snow is also disappearing, leaving black ice even more susceptible to the warming atmosphere. Scientists studied Mount Everest using weather detectors and huge ice core samples and determined that its deterioration will negatively impact both climbers and those who rely on the mountain range for drinking water. (BBC)

Happening in the US: Mike and Jeanine Harvey are suing. They gave their daughter a DNA testing kit as a gift but didn’t gamble on the results. Turns out, daughter Jessica doesn’t share Italian roots with her father. She’s not biologically related to him at all, despite the intrauterine insemination her parents went through. That’s one trip to Italy ruined! (BBC)

Happening in NYC: The Gothamist conducted a survey about NYC dog parks. Rocky’s Doggy Run is not only expansive, but perfectly equipped for its doggy dog visitors; it has mulch, trash cans, and is notably bereft of rats. It’s located in Washington Park. Morningside Park Dog Run has great views, lots of trees, and friendly little dogs. Cunningham Park Dog run, in Fresh Meadows, is one to avoid. It’s too sunny, too dirty, and it’s wet. Further, its short fences don’t provide enough barrier between dog and car and have been the cause of many tragic accidents. (Gothamist)

Happening in Our Community: We just returned to campus, but for this summer, there are already so many opportunities to study abroad. Check out the Columbia Summer in Paris Information Session from 12 to 1 pm this Monday by clicking here.
