Last Sunday, Bwog Illustrator Eli Reville and Events Editor Ava Slocum attended WKCR’s Fall Welcome Concert and BBQ! The event, held in Roone Auditorium, featured live music and DJs from Columbia’s own radio station.

The outdoor concert planned for South Lawn may have gotten rained out, but the indoor version did not disappoint! While it stayed damp and drizzly outside, students who found their way to the Lerner auditorium got to hear four hours of live and DJ-ed music while enjoying barbecue food, a bean bag toss, and two custom screen-printing stations.

WKCR 89.9 FM NY is Columbia’s student-led radio station, broadcasting music, journalism, and radio plays among other programs. Sunday’s concert featured student DJs Charlie Smith, Jalen Taylor, and Vielka Ebadan along with a bluegrass performance and a set from WKCR archivist Stephen Park’s rock band.

WKCR’s event also featured two tables where students could stand in a long line to get an image of their choice printed on a bag, pillowcase, whiteboard, or phone wallet! We saw bags screen-printed with everything from selfies to cat pictures to band logos to New York Times headlines.

The concert was a lovely way to kick off the semester and what will definitely be another year of great WKCR programming. Thank you to WKCR (and Columbia Undergraduate Student Life) for this fun event!
