  • On Tuesday, October 11, at 7 pm in Uris Room 307, join the Columbia Outdoors Club for a night of pumpkin decorating! Feel free to bring your own pumpkin, squash, or other piece of autumnal produce to decorate. Tiny pumpkins will also be provided.

  • On Monday, October 10, from 4:15 to 5:45 pm EDT, please join the East Central European Center at the Harriman Institute for a presentation of Everything I Don’t Know, the first book-length selection in English of the poetry of renowned Polish poet Jerzy Ficowski (1924-2006). The event, moderated by Chris Caes, Lecturer in Polish, will feature translators Jennifer Grotz and Piotr Sommer, who will present and read from their translations of Ficowski’s poetry. This is a hybrid event, taking place online and in the International Affairs Building. Please register online.
  • On Monday, October 10, from 5 to 6 pm, Columbia’s Institute of Latin American Studies will hold the panel discussion “Reporting Under Fire: Reporters From Mexico, Brazil, and Honduras.” The event will feature five Cabot Prize-winning journalists who will discuss their work covering news under dangerous conditions. The discussion will take place in Pulitzer Hall.
  • On Monday, October 10, from 6:30 to 8 pm, in honor of Indigenous People’s Day, the Native American Council (NAC) and Columbia Multicultural Affairs will host the 3rd Annual Ella Cara Deloria Lecture via Zoom and in person in Lerner 555. This annual lecture is a tribute to Ella Cara Deloria, a prominent Yankton Sioux educator, anthropologist, ethnographer, linguist, and 1915 graduate of Teachers College. Members of Native American Council (NAC) will be joined by Assistant Professor of Religion and Human Rights, Timothy Vasko (Barnard College), in conversation regarding Indigenous Storytelling and Philosophy.   • On Wednesday, October 12, from 12 to 1:30 pm, Columbia’s Center for Teaching and Learning will present the online panel discussion “Anti-Racist Pedagogy in Action” featuring Columbia faculty members. During this 90-minute panel discussion, five instructors will share how they enact anti-racist pedagogies in their courses and then take questions from the audience. Please feel welcome to submit your questions ahead of the panel by using this form, and register for the event online.
  • On Wednesday, October 12, from 12 to 2 pm, renowned architectural historian Professor Andrew Dolkart will lead a walking tour of Morningside Heights that will focus on the architecture of the area’s educational institutions. Professor Dolkart will discuss the planning and design of Columbia, Barnard, Teachers College, and Union Theological Seminary. The tour will meet at 116th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, inside the campus gates, and is limited to 25 participants. Please register online.
  • On Friday, October 14, from 12 to 1:30 pm, will be a discussion of Professor Aziza Shanazarova’s book Manifestations of a Sufi Woman in Central Asia. The Maẓhar al-ʿajāʾib is, as of today, the only known extensive treatise devoted to a female religious master in Islamic Central Asia. It is a devotional work written to expound upon the teachings of Aghā-yi Buzurg (“The Great Lady”), who was active in early 16th century Bukhara. This lecture will discuss the recently published critical edition of the Maẓhar al-ʿajāʾib and its overall importance for the study of gender history in Muslim societies. The conversation will take place in person in the International Affairs Building; please register in advance.
  • Friday, October 14, to Sunday, October 16, is President Bollinger’s 21st Annual Fun Run, Walk, & Roll! All registrants will have three days to complete the 5K distance anywhere of their choosing. There will be a Fun Run Extravaganza kickoff event on Low Plaza and South Lawn on Friday from 12 to 2 pm with food and activities. Please register for the fun run online.
