Happening in the World: Disney has just announced it will be releasing sequels to the popular franchises of Toy Story, Frozen, and Zootopia. Bob Iger, Disney’s CEO, has also announced that the company will cut 7,000 jobs due to Disney+ subscriber amounts dropping for the first time since the streaming service’s launch in 2019. Iger says the move could save $5.5 billion. The company made over $20 billion in sales last year. (BBC)

Happening in the US: Newly released documents show that the officers who pulled over and fatally beat Tyre Nichols last month, never told him why he was pulled over. Additionally, officer Demetrius Haley has admitted to taking photos of Nichols beaten against the side of the police car and sending them to at least five others. The five Memphis police officers involved have been fired and charged with second-degree murder. (AP)

Happening in NYC: According to data published by the city on Wednesday, the death toll among New York’s homeless population reached an all-time high during the 2022 fiscal year. At least 815 homeless people died, 51 more people than the previous record high of 2021. Approximately half of these deaths resulted from drug overdoses and at least 10 were COVID-19 related. This news comes just a day after the resignation of New York’s social services commissioner and as the city’s homeless population grows sharply. (Gothamist)

Happening in our Community: Author, filmmaker, and Zen Buddhist priest, Ruth Ozeki will be speaking this evening as the 2022-2023 Sôshitsu Sen Distinguished Lecturer by the Donald Keene Center of Japanese Culture. Ozeki’s novels include A Tale for the Time Being, The Book of Form and Emptiness, and All Over Creation. The event begins at 6:00pm in Faculty House and you must register in advance.
