Happening in the World: Uganda has passed new legislation that will ban identifying as LGBTQ+, referred to in the bill as the promotion of gay identity. Same-sex acts were already unlawful under British colonial-era laws, but this new bill, which passed with only two votes against it, will be one of the most severe anti-LGBTQ+ legislations in the world. Happening in the US: Lindsay Lohan, Logan Paul, Lil Yachty, and five other celebrities have been charged by the Securities and Exchange Commission for illegally promoting cryptocurrencies and failing to disclose that they were compensated to do so. These cryptocurrencies—Tronix and BitTorrent—were sold by entrepreneur Justin Sun who has also been accused of the unregistered offer and sale of crypto asset securities and manipulating the secondary market. The celebrities, with the exception of Soulja Boy and Austin Mahone, have agreed to pay more than $400,000 in total to settle the charges without confirming or denying the allegations. (NPR)

Happening in NYC: Governor Kathy Hochul has proposed stricter laws and fees to crack down on stores in New York selling weed without a license. Legislation introduced by Hochul Wednesday would expand the authority of the Office of Cannabis Management, the Department of Taxation and Finance, and local police. Additionally, stores could face fines of up to $10,000 a day for selling cannabis illegally or $200,000 for having it in inventory. (Gothamist)
