Beatrice says take classes in the French department! Be like Beatrice!

Name, School, Major, Hometown: Beatrice Tulchin, Barnard, Psychology, Pleasantville, New York

Claim to fame:

  • I was a #childactress on Broadway (I was in Matilda for like all of my formative years) and if I like you enough, I’ll perform the choreography of “Revolting Children” for you on the spot

Where are you going?

  • That is a good question, Bwog. Currently, I am about to go get a snack to reward myself for studying for one (1) single hour. But if you mean post grad, I am planning to go to France and be a teaching assistant in the Orléans-Tours region!

What are 3 things you learned at Columbia and would like to share with the Class of 2027?

  • One of the most important lessons I learned was, as overstated as it is, not to compare my journey to anyone else’s! Everyone is so incredible in their own way and it is so cool to be surrounded by such amazing people!
  • The second thing I learned was that in the best way, nobody cares! Go to parties you’d otherwise be scared to attend, talk to someone new, and don’t worry about being judged.
  • The third thing I learned was how to write a 15 page lab report in one night. Don’t recommend it, but I learned that it is doable. But bonus advice is to practice self care and to prioritize health over school work always!

“Back in my day…”

  • Back in my day, we literally had online school (boo) so people who lived near campus would sit on the lawns socially-distanced and “hang out” from afar to try to pretend everything was normal. Very glad those days are done, but I met some cool people on our lawn hangs!

Favorite Columbia controversy?

  • Idk if it is a controversy really, but I have enjoyed hearing the discourse about Pete’s coffee in Milstein being converted into the new boba/sushi place. Personally I’m a big sushi fan and I don’t drink coffee, so I was team sushi, but I do sympathize with the opposing side.

What was your favorite class at Columbia?

  • I loved all my French classes with my queen Anne Boyman, or really any class in the Barnard French department in general.

Would you rather give up oral sex or cheese?

  • I’m lactose intolerant so…

Whom would you like to thank?

  • My dear roommate, Aarushi Sharma, for being my wife, my rock, my soulmate all throughout our time at Barnard! And Anna Mor, my bestest friend. And my adorable dog, Pearl! And also I have to thank my mom, of course!

One thing to do before graduating:

  • Pick out grad photos! I keep procrastinating that…oops

Any regrets?

  • Not attending shabbat dinners at Chabad sooner (shoutout Rabbi Yuda and Naomi)! And not rushing Bwog (shoutout Talia and Sophie)!!!
