Last month, two teams from Columbia University qualified to take part in the upcoming annual International Quiz Bowl Tournaments (IQBT) Undergraduate Championship Tournament. Columbia’s teams finished in the top 40 out of 100 teams at the online qualifying event.
Two teams from Columbia’s Quiz Bowl club have qualified to compete in the upcoming Undergraduate Quiz Bowl Championship Tournament, hosted by the International Quiz Bowl Tournaments (IQBT), LLC. The Teams are each made up of four students—Jack Rado (CC ‘27), Cooper Roh (CC ‘27), Forrest Weintraub (CC ‘24), and Geoffrey Wu (CC ‘25) on Team A, and Derek Chen, John John Groger (CC ‘24), William Groger (CC ‘25), and Jason Qin (CC ‘27) on Team B. Of the 100 teams competing in the qualifier event, Columbia Teams A and B ranked second and 16th, respectively.
Quiz bowl is a competitive academic event that tests teams’ knowledge on a wide variety of subjects including literature, science, history, philosophy, fine arts, current events, among others. While the format and rules often fluctuate, the competition involves toss-up questions that teams buzz in to answer, Jeopardy! style.
Last year, the University of Chicago took first place in the 2023 IGBT Undergraduate Championship over 28 other teams.
The Undergraduate Championship will be held at Columbia University on March 2 and 3, 2024.
